  • Charleston SC Wedding Photographer: Hi! I'm Aly Greer, a wedding photographer for Charleston and worldwide. I share love stories, wedding tips, and photoshop magic. I love my family, coffee, donuts and dogs! Do we have anything in common?

Photography in the Modern South: What does the "modern south" mean? For me, it means tradition with a twist. Think front porches, comfort food, bowties, nice manners...meets urban farming, pinterest projects, thrift store shopping, breaking the rules...and top it off with a little splash of "bless their heart." I live in Charleston (definitely the modern south), but am also available to travel worldwide.

Be sure to check us out on Facebook and Instagram to see the most up-to-date photos! Thanks for stopping by!

2013…you have a lot to live up to.

As I sit here reflecting over the past year, I am blown away at what amazing clients I have. I am humbled and honored that so many of you chose me to document such important moments in your lives…engagements, weddings, new babies. I have loved getting to photograph all of these new beginnings for you and can not wait to see the incredible moments {and risks} that 2013 will hold.

Here are some of my favorite moments from this past year.

Photographing the wedding of some of our best friends in Nashville…

Meeting possibly some of the sweetest clients I will ever have…..

Getting one of my favorite families to look at the camera despite prom photos going on behind me….;)

And capturing some of the best grandparents you will ever meet…

Laughing with these two….

Writing down pinterest ideas from this wedding…

Watching this little lady grow up before my eyes….

Welcoming these little ladies (and one little gentleman) into the world….

And waiting on another to be born…

Tearing up at the incredible love of this couple…

Awestruck from the beauty of this wedding…

Flying to Pittsburgh to photograph this sweet wedding…

Straight up bawling my eyes out at this wedding….(coming soon!)

Playing in the leaves with this couple…

And playing outside with these kids…

Giving this couple some of their first family portraits:

Not to mention….getting to travel to (and photograph) South America, participate in two Help-Portrait events, and launching Wild Cotton’s new logo and branding….Photography in the Modern South.

Thanks for making it a great (and busy) year y’all. Happy New Year!

South Carolina Maternity Photography: Leigh

Leigh and I have been friends for 13 years….since we were sophomores in high school. She and I have been through a lot together….high school, proms,  living with each other all 4 years of college, me having cancer, both of our weddings and now her pregnancy! She is by far one of my best friends and one of the few that I know I will be friends with for the rest of our lives. After shooting Sally Katherine’s wedding last weekend, she and I met up the next morning in her small town of Saluda to do a quick maternity shoot before I drove back to Nashville. Leigh and her husband Matthew are  expecting twin boys this winter…and I can not wait to meet them!

Love the one below…Leigh you are beautiful!

These cowboy boots belonged to her husband Matthew when he was a baby…too cute!

PS- If you are wondering where Matthew is in these photos…he told me the night before that he had to go fishing in the morning. I kind of thought he was joking, but true story…he went fishing! Haha….gotta love living in the country!

Happy Friday! 🙂

Amber Herring - Aly at some point I have got to figure out when I can see you. Leigh, beautiful…gorgeous…glowing Leigh. I can’t believe that you are actually carrying twins. And these pictures make it harder to believe…It’s like a little basketball is stuffed up your shirt. Your beautiful belly is so perfectly round. I miss ya’ll so much. Aly I think if I could afford it I would get you down here to take pictures every week. Maybe early spring I can get you here to do a family session, a maternity session, and some picltures of Aubree. (well attempt,Aubree doesn’t cooperate around a camera these days) Love all of your pics….I just spent the past hour tethering internet off my phone and looking all through your blog. You are so talented. NO… blessed with a gift is more like it. Love you

Brookland Plantation Bridal Portraits: Sally Katherine

I have been dying to share these bridal portraits…and since Sally Katherine and Joel tied the knot yesterday, now I can! Their wedding was incredible (stay tuned for pictures in the coming weeks!) and Sally Katherine was such a perfect looking bride. 🙂  We ventured down to Brookland Plantation on Edisto Island for her bridal session and we lucked out with the most amazing light a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

Sally Katherine…you are so so beautiful.

The next few photos are probably some of my favorites that I have ever taken…

Leave some love for Sally Katherine in the comments section below! 🙂 Happy Weekend!

Nashville Maternity Shoot: Meghan & Quinn

I finished editing this shoot on the plane ride back from Colorado last night (photos of that to come soon!), and I have been dying to post it on the blog. I met Meghan earlier this year through a group of girls that have muffins every Friday. Yes, we get up at 7am for muffins…but these are really good muffins…and really fun girls. It has been fun getting to know Meghan through her pregnancy and I had such a great time photographing her and her husband Quinn! These two might be my new favorite models…they are so laid back and had some great ideas for locations for the shoot. Can’t wait to meet their baby girl!

Sometimes when I photograph people I make them do things like eat an ice cream sundae and then ice cream cones on top of it. 🙂 Special thanks to Bobbie’s Dairy Dip for letting us shoot there and for providing yummy props!

Gosh Meghan…you are ridiculously beautiful!

Leave some love for Meghan and Quinn in the comments section below. Happy Thursday!

Elizabeth - These are AMAZING! Love them so much!!!

Pittsburgh Wedding Photography: Emily & Trystan

At the beginning of November, I flew up to Pittsburgh to photograph Emily and Trystan’s big day. I love these two….they are so thoughtful…both to each other and their friends. (I may or may not have started tearing up earlier in the day than usual at this wedding!)

Emily wrote a letter to the bridesmaids explaining what each of their gifts represented and read scripture to go along with each gift. Needless to say, pretty much everyone (myself included) was in tears after her heartfelt explanation.

I loved these shoes. LOVED them. They went so well with Emily’s ring and the bridesmaid dresses!

Em….you are seriously gorgeous.

Trystan wasn’t looking too bad himself! 🙂

These two wanted to pray together before the ceremony, but without seeing each other. With the help of the bridal party, we managed to back them up to each other in a courtyard with their eyes closed. Too sweet.

The photo below is always one of my favorite moments in a ceremony. The groom always looks so proud to see his (almost) wife walking towards him.

After the ceremony, we headed to a nearby field to catch the last of the Pittsburgh sunset. Trystan and Emily…you guys look amazing!

Ladies and Gentlemen…I present to you…the COOKIE BAR. Emily told me that in Pittsburgh, it is tradition to have family and friends of the bride bake homemade cookies for the reception. Lots of them. I don’t think I have ever seen that many cookies in one place in my life!

Such a perfect day. Emily and Trystan, thank you for trusting me to capture these moments for you. It was my pleasure!
